411 meets Internet local attractions

“Google announced that it is providing a service to help developers add location to mobile applications and Web sites. Called Gears GeolocationA PL it allows users to pull up more relevant information based on their location. As part of the launch, two sites in Europe tested it out. One is lastminute.com, which is a site for travelers looking to find a nearby restaurant from their phone (which can be handy if you don’t know where you are). The other is Rummble, a social discovery site which recommends places to visit (that are near you). ” image

How to Open Your Very Own Swiss Bank Account

Posted in Uncategorized on August 23, 2008 by acuriousmind80s

Hmmmmmmmmmm……………..

Swiss Bank Accounts: Separating Fact From Fiction

Mention the words Swiss bank account and it can bring to mind corrupt politicians hiding vast sums of money, drug lords laundering ill gotten gains or filthy rich American citizens trying to avoid paying taxes. The reality, however, is quite different from the myths.

Zurich, Switzerland

“Swiss banks must verify your identity and won’t accept your business if they think it is illegal, says Ken Wassell, CEO of Los Angeles, California-based Offshore Company, a firm that aids its customers in overseas financial services. “About five percent of applications a year are turned down because of possible fraud,” says Wassell.

It doesn’t stop there. James Nason, spokesman for the Swiss Bankers Association, adds that Swiss banks must not only verify your identity but also verify the source of the funds you are putting in the bank. “And besides that,” says Nason, “the beneficiary of the funds must also be positively identified.”

That’s not to say there isn’t secrecy in having a Swiss bank account. Any Swiss banker today who reveals your information without your consent risks prison time by law. And there is secrecy when it comes to issues like inheritance or divorce. It’s up to plaintiffs to prove someone has a bank account in Switzerland, if they want access to it through a lawsuit

Microsoft makes 3-D tour for Photos

Posted in Tecknology on August 23, 2008 by acuriousmind80s

Microsoft Live Labs CREATES Web ‘Synth’ For 3-d photo tour display, this is definitely worth trying to get and a great review of it

Microsoft is a little like the General Motors of technology. The software giant is, of course, much more successful, financially and in market share, than the troubled auto maker. But, as at GM (GM), Microsoft’s (MSFT) very size — over 90,000 employees — and its bureaucratic structure often make the company seem more stolid and less innovative than smaller, nimbler rivals like Google (GOOG) and Apple (AAPL).

This contrast has appeared sharper in recent years, as Microsoft’s Windows Vista operating system received a tepid critical response compared with Apple’s Leopard platform and as the company’s Live Web search service has slipped further behind Google’s. In addition, Microsoft’s cellphone software, Windows Mobile, looks old and creaky compared with Apple’s sleek iPhone and Google’s forthcoming Android mobile operating system.

But innovation does exist at Microsoft’s sprawling Redmond, Wash., campus. For instance, last year’s daring and radical redesign of Microsoft Office has been a critical and commercial success.

The Machine behind Facebook

Posted in Uncategorized on August 19, 2008 by acuriousmind80s

One thing I have always wondered is the organization behind these seemingly free usually overvalued websites( your Google, facebook and their subsets- myspace, youtube; you get the idea) People see the founders mostly young guys in the 30s who barely look like they know what their doing. A small percentage of the huge number of users know the organization behind the sites. I just read an interesting posting giving a glimpse in the management of Facebook generally and the founder Mark Zuckerberg( who I guess is more capable then he looks) and how it is just like your average corporation but based in a different market.

WHO IS IN CHARGE AT FACEBOOK?

Posted in Movies on August 17, 2008 by acuriousmind80s

Long story short, the want more money from you. So you don’t care or love 3-d movies

“The third dimension is coming soon to a theater near you. No I’m not talking about a movie, but rather a high-stakes drama involving the biggest movie studios and theater chains, enmeshed in a battle over who and how the transition to digital 3-D will be financed.

Now finally, Hollywood’s biggest studios are close to making a deal with a consortium of movie theater chains that includes AMC, Regal, and Cinemark. This $1 billion deal would convert 15,000 screens to digital projection systems, enabling theaters to show 3-D movies.

A Cool Site for Multitaskers: FLOCK

“Even with the advent of tabbed browsing, which allows you to keep multiple Web pages open in the same window, Web multitasking can be a pain. You have to constantly click back and forth among tabs if they contain fast-changing material you check often, like the status of your friends in social-networking services, or updates to news feeds. Check out this video on it.
